Because of the influx of many newcomers into the area in recent months the Pilot is planning a get-acquainted issue next week. The issue will be unique in several ways. F irst, it will be distributed to everyone in the en tire area at no cost. Subscribers will receive their regular copy of the Pilot, but all those not reg ularly on the mailing list, intht area between Smith River and Pistol River will also receive a paper. But, even better, each issue of the Pilot will have an individ ual number imprinted on th e masthead. Each number, will be different, of course. Many of the merchants will have numbers in their ads, and or in their windows, and if the corresponding number is brought in from the Pilot a prize will be awarded. Also the Pilot x*ill be awarding free su b sc rip tio n s through the use of the numbers. Bervin was arrestee by Chief of Poll e Bud C ross and Deputy Sheriff Wes Smith this week on a charge of forgery. Bervin, a local man, who has lived here for four years was id. ntified, and arrested . He has b n on parole for an e a rlie r violation. MEETING SET FOR TONIGHT The P .T .A . will hold their in itial meeting of the season tonight, (Thursday) in the new high school auditorium. The meeting is slated to get underway at 7:30 p .m . and will have the introduction of the new teachers on the program . TO ASK DREDGING ---- HOME FROM THE ARMY Bruce Yelton returned home from the rigors of Army life on Saturday morning. He received his discharge from the Army. ANTELOPE HUNTERS John Molino, and Archie Mc Vay got themselves an antelope over in Eastern Oregon recently. It was McVay’s first antelope. Molino also killed his f i r s t bear, up the Chetco recently on -the Garvin place. The Colegrove and Crockett dogs tracked the bear, and treed it. CATTLE RUSTLING IN AREA State Police were investigating the shooting and killing of two cattle on the Bravo place up the Chetco river on Monday. T h e steers were owned by Archie McVay. Parts of one of the animals were sliced off. A lot of people missed a very good show here Sunday at th e Rodeo, put on by Fred Blunt and W arren McNeely. Only a medium sized crowd wasonhand for the only viewing of steer riding this season. Prize winners were as follows: Kid Calf Riding: 1st, R ic h a r d Brown, who won a w rist watch. Second was Donnie Barkdoll, and both were from Brookings. Calf Roping: Buck McCall, 1st Myrtle Point. Chas. Rodriquez, 2n«L 3rd, was Doyle Hall. Steer Daubing: Buck McCall 1st; Everett Bean, Crescent City, 2nd, and Phil Ames, 3rd. Wild Cow Milking: Buck Mc Call, 1st; Chas. Rodriquez, 2nd; and Doyle Hall, 3rd. Steer Riding: Chuck Demming, Buck McCall, Warren McNeely, and Fred Blunt.
