The b ear m easured o ver seven foot long, and Meadors shot him with a .22 rifle. He has trapped other b ea r in the same place, but m ost of those were yearlings, and were co m p ar- tively sm all. BOTANIST HERE Milton Tryon, lately of the famed St. Louis Botanical G ar dens visited in Brookings last week. He is one of the worlds forem ost authority on fern s, and was taken to Loeb State p ark by BUI P re isin g e r to see some of the local ferns In th e ir native habitat. Tryon will be teaching this y ear at the U niversity of C alif o rnia. The new b rochures are the firs t printed for the Chamber in o ver four y ears. Done in yellow, and then red thenblue, and flnallyblack the b ro ch u res were finished in the new o ff-set p ro c e ss, which r e produces p ictu res excellently. The b rochures will be avail able soon at the Cham ber o f C om m erce Information booth. • Swanson. Local rep resen tativ es were Frenchie A rrell, Robert Rettke, Dr. Anthony Leschln, and Dr. David Brown. It was brought out that Brook ings was about 60 pints of blood sh o rt, and would have to be caught up to enable Brookings people to receive benefits with out paying $30 a pint for blood. It was tentatively agreed that the Bloodmobile would come to eith er the state line, o r to Smith R iver, depending upon where facilities could be secured. It will be Brookings resp o n s ibility to find 60 o r m ore donors before the Bloodmoblle m a k e s its trip down. The date for the visit h asb eei tentatively set for Sept. 17, a l though final plans will be ann ounced tn succeeding Issues ol the Pilot.
