True the whole idea was probably horn in levity, and is going strong because with the election and the Olympics over there doesn’t seetn to be much to talk about. But, nevertheless, we don’t believe that it is en tirely just one big joke. Many people are actually dissatisfied with our con nection with Oregon, which is political only. Socially, geographically, anti economically Southern Curry Coun ty is closer to California. Our state capital is some 300 miles away, over fierce roads. We have no representation in the state legislature. The highway from here to (mid Beach is a disgrace to the state, and no improvements have been made in recent years. . We can enter Oregon only on that highway. e have no road into the interiors. Southern Curry gets its rad;o and TV reception from California. When we go m a “ho: Htv”. it is more often San Francisco than Port land. We read California newspapers, and a great deal of our foods, and supplies come from the south. We like Oregon. We like a lot of things about it- a n d we often wish we were more a part of it. But, if that isn’t ever to be, perhaps the new state of Shasta would bend a more s\ m p atlie tic ear to OUT needs.
