SKETCH BOOK A pparently a well trained gang of ••school b reak ers” hit Brook ings last T hursday, along w ith a half dozen o th er schools in the area. The buglars entered the school here bv force sometim e after* M idnight, and m ade off w ith an estim ated $35 to $40 in pennies, nickles, and q u arte rs—but severly dam aged a num ber of doors in the process. Cheif of Police Bud Cross said th a t reports he had indicated that the same group b u r g l a r i z e d schools in Coos Bay, Coquille, and Bandon on W ednesday night. On T hursday they hit Brookings, Ft Dick, Sm ith River, Crescent City, K erby, Cave Jun ctio n and several in G rants Pass, really m aking a night of it. E ither it was the same gang, and th eir m ethods w ere sim ilar, or it was National Break Into Your School Night. The bu rg lars used a crow bar or sim ilar instrum ent in each of the schools, and distained taking anything except money. No type w riters. or anything else was re- ported taken A crow bar was left on the janitors desk at the C res cent City school. Supt of schools D. D. W illiams said that they entered the ele m entary school by breaking in a window, then broke in the fur- nance room door in the upper elem entary building. They went in all the classrooms, and rifled the teachers desks. If a classroom was locked they would simply break the door jam by prying w ith a crow bar. They entered the highschool in two places, but couldn't get into the m ain building, and left after the two tries.
