Rowe N ext Tuesday citizens of the U nited States will go to the polls to cast th eir ballots for favorite candidates on the local, state and national levels. In addition, the citizens of the state of Oregon w ill be asked to indicate their stand on various city, county and state measures. G reat em phasis, n aturally, will be placed at this tim e on getting out the vote. Regardless of p arty affiliation, all candidates and pro ponents of m easures will be much concerned th at a vote be cast by enough people to insure the final count as being tru ly indicative of I the desires of its citizens. Personally, I wish that m ore em phasis could be given to the u a -v in which the ballot is m arked rath er th an to the m ere physical act of being th ere to vote. T rue citizenship, in my opinion, in volves much m ore han ju st being present at the polls. For exam ple, I am afraid that if the tru th could be known, which of course it can't, m any votes cast will be based on hate and prejudice ra th e r than as a result of open-minded evaluation Likewise, too m any voting deci sions will be based on acceptance of false political propoganda Brookings, Oregon .
