N ext Tuesday citizens of the
U nited States will go to the polls
to cast th eir ballots for favorite
candidates on the local, state and
national levels. In addition, the
citizens of the state of Oregon
w ill be asked to indicate their
stand on various city, county and
state measures.
G reat em phasis, n aturally, will
be placed at this tim e on getting
out the vote. Regardless of p arty
affiliation, all candidates and pro
ponents of m easures will be much
concerned th at a vote be cast by
enough people to insure the final
count as being tru ly indicative of
I the desires of its citizens.
Personally, I wish that m ore
em phasis could be given to the
u a -v in which the ballot is m arked
rath er th an to the m ere physical
act of being th ere to vote. T rue
citizenship, in my opinion, in
volves much m ore han ju st being
present at the polls.
For exam ple, I am afraid that
if the tru th could be known,
which of course it can't, m any
votes cast will be based on hate
and prejudice ra th e r than as a
result of open-minded evaluation
Likewise, too m any voting deci
sions will be based on acceptance
of false political propoganda

Dear Mrs. W alker:
It has come to my attention that some are implying
that your work as Clerk of Circuit Court is not satisfactory.
