JULY 19, 1956 PA G E 8 I, J Alaskan Movie Slated Here I I f The motion picture. “Alaska” will lx? shown in the Brookings I high school auditorium on Tues- August 1, under the sponsorship of the Brookings police depart ment The show will start both nights at 8 p.m. “Alaska,” is a two-hour color- sound picture of America’s won derland filmed partly by Clyde E. Langley, who will show the picture under contract with the sponsors. The picture includes breath taking scenes of America’s last frontier Alaska. Tt required more than seven years for film ing and was released in 1952. Among the spectacles is the great Lake George break-up showing the only self-filling and self-emptying lake in the world. The lake, called the eighth Won der of the world, is 15 miles long, five miles wide and the depth ranges from 200 to 300 feet. Also in the picture are shots of the largest carnivorous ani mal in the world, the kodiak bear, 15 feet from tip to tip; a bull moose ,and many shots of sports, fishing, caribou, the Al askan mountain goat, dog sled transportation, and the valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.
