U OP W LIBRARY» EUGENE ORE PIPE DREAMS . . . Harbor ' Nowhere A Finer Climate - Nowhere A Finer Communih V olume II, Number 21 By Joe Murphy Now I know w hat Brookings looks like from the air, th a n k s to Ju n io r H anscam and his a ir fliv ver. We left here F riday evening at 5 p.m. and arrived in Eugene ju s t a few m inutes past 6, flying over Agnes on the way down. This would have been a six hour drive. • * * Coming home w asn’t quite so easy. We left Eugene a t about 7 a.m. but flew down the Coast m ost of the way, alm ost a t w a te r level. T hat coast line is tru ly beautiful from th e air, especially a t th a t altitude. We circled over Brookings m ore than an hour, un able to land because of the heavy fog a t C rissey S ta te Line field. Brooking w as clear, but the fog w as so heavy at the field we couldn't see ground. Attack Is Leveled At Phone Co Soap Box Race Set For Saturday • * ♦ Viewing the tim ber from the a ir im pressed me the most. We have a good deal of it in the m ountains behind us, but the huge stands of first grow th tim b er be tw een Coos Bay and Roseburg really was a sight to behold. Any way, it certain ly is the w ay to trav el fog or no, and I believe th a t inside of ten years most of us will be zipping along through the wild blue yonder. • * ♦ Several bouquets could be tos sed out a t th is point. I thing Tom McKenzie, and his crew for their w ork on the Soap Bob derby and Val M endenhall and the fire boys for the th e ir efforts on our F ou rth of Ju ly firew orks, deserve a lot of Thursday, July, 12, 1956 T H R E E N e w O W N ERS O F CURRY COUNTY LUMBER Co. are, from left to right, Ross Gul ley, Marion Com fort and E m m ett Gulley. About 125 boys w’ere in G rants Pass Saturday fo r inspection, and tim e trials. T h a t m any will be in the G rants P ass race, th a t covers all of so u th ern Oregon. T h e Brookings boy« will re ceive a breakfast here before sta rtin g off for G rants Pass early S a tu rd a y morning. T he boys reported th at they had a fine tim e at the trial run la s t S atu rd ay , accompanied by Tom McKenzie, Bob R ettke and Buzz S tew art. Besides the races they had a swimming p arty and a d in n er at the Active Club. It w as reported that at least one boy, not from Brookings, crashed into a brick wall when sw erving down the track at about 20 m.p.h. ¡A G N E W LEASES PLANT The City «if Brookings lashed out at the W est Coast Telephone Company* T uesday evening in the reg u lar meeting.
