Thursday, March 9, 1956 BROOKINGS-HARBOR PILOT — BROOKINGS, OREGON PAGE EIGHT — HIGHW AY 101 GOLD&EACH 1 0 mph > X Facts About Highway 101 The road from Brookings to Gold Beach is a malignant tumor eating at the economy of the entire State of Oregon. 3 o 3 _ ► a» This road is in such dangerous condition that wrecks are invited. When the whole nation is promoting a vast safety campaign, the State of Oregon is ignoring a death trap. At the California border is a vast hord of tourist dollars clamoring to lx? spent. S low Why is the Highway Commission ignoring this situation? It is because of the comparative small vote in Curry County? We think so. The politicians are listening to and looking toward the more populated centers. It is in these areas that the highway dollar is being spent. •<. > // to (fi tfl .¿ ' hîw Why take Millions of dollars to build a new road from near Coos Bay to Bandon when the southern section of 101 is falling apart? A new road from Brookings to Gold Beach is not an expense. It is a self'liquidating investment One trip over this road is enough. Our tourist never return. óP -A O Tourist dollars alone w'ould pay for the road In a short time, to say nothing of the savings In truck time and maintainence. Curry County depends entirely on the truck ing industry to feed and clothe us and to haul our products to market. If we have no roads, how are we to survive? We, of Curry County, will think carefully before casting our votes in coming elections. BROOKINGS-HARBOR CA w F ôî ZJN a A FASI The Emblem Club officers installed last week are shown above.
