H enry K err had purch ased the buiMn#'- and property from Mrs. John G ardner. Subsequently the new Post Office building w as constructed and w as ready for occupancy in Ja n u a ry 55. Resides the K err H arwan* and the Post Office, the House ol Shoes, S outhern C urry R ealty, T ots to Teens, T he C rabb A ccounting Service, th e Mode O’ D a\ and Ed Ackley’s Offices are now located in th e K err Building. H enry K err and his wife moved to Brookings from Packwood, W ashington, in 1946. The h ardw are sto re w as open ed as a p artn ersh ip betw een R obert K err and Robert R ettke. R e ttk e opened th e sto re alone because K err and not yet re tu rn ed from th e service. He was discharged in Ju n e of 1952 a fte r 4 years w ith the 7th In fan try . T ike R ettke, b ro th er of Bob, -am e down for a 2-weeks vac ation a fte r being discharged from PAGE FOUR building from which place they moved to th e present location in the G rayshel Building on Chetco A venue in 1947. In m aking th e move they added to th eir lines of m erchandise and expanded th e ir space. T he couple sta te s th a t they have enjoyed a prosperous bus iness here and have g re a t hoj»es for the fu tu re of the area. They have been active in the civic affairs of th e com m unity. M OORE’S V A RIETY , A N D A PPA R E L SHO P is owned and o p erated by Fred and Madge Moon"*. T hey cam e to Brookings in Ju ly of 1944. At th a t tim e they s ta rte d out like so m any of the ea rly com ers as lily grow ers. They purchased an 8-acre tra c t of land and w ere in the lily business. T here they had operated a s k a t ing rink and snack b ar for 4 years. They purchased the Vin cent Building in Septem ber prior to opening th e new business.
