I ll see you next fall” I found it kind of tough to act the part of a la th e r encouraging his son to get out into the w orld to learn to stand on his ow n ft et I guess that was becausi' it seems only yesterday th at he was learning to ta k e his first steps and 1 w as hovering in the b a c k ground, prepared to catch him it hi' w avered so that he w ouldn’t get a nasty hum p in the fall. Somehow I fe d th a t such is the case for most of us Dads. For eighteen yt ars. we a re continually prodding o u r y o u n g sters to grow up to bo men; and at th e sam • tim e vve a re c o n stan tly on tin a le rt to keep them from sufferin'*, m ore than th e ir share of bruises And then ts'fore we know it, alm ost overnight, th e son becomes a m an and our job is donev Ano w hile w e’re m ighty proud we are also ju s, a hi, lonely.
