It has worked out well in some communities - although it has run into opposition in others. Ever since we have been here there has been one drive after another. 1 he Red Cross, ('.nicer, Easter Seals, Heart, Buy Scouts, A ll-Y ear Events, Baseball, Library, A ir W atch, and on anti on and on. I he only drive that is left to be conducted is one to buy the Pilot a new press, and we may start the kick off on that one shortly. The im portant part about these fund raising drives is that they are all important. No community should be w ithout them, because those groups and those act ivities are necessary. I he only problem is that it gets almost too thick for the merchant to have to dig down every week, lx* cause obviously it is d iffic u lt for any drive workers to get out into all the scat! red residential areas. N aturally then, the businessman gets hit. It is also hard on the volunteers, who are asked to do the collecting. Once a ' , . year, twice a year, or even three times a year is tine, nut a good many of the civic minded jKoplc are out oftener than that, trying to collect for this or that. If they have the energy to burn, excellent, hut it does get wearing. W hat other solution? Perhaps we could give the C om m unity ('best idea a w h irl. Promote one drive to supplement all drives, and then budget out the monies collected according to need. W ho is for it? Let's speak out.
