They have gone ahead with their plans in the most surprising m.inner. Generally, a project of this type brings about a hurst of enthusiasm, and then a gradual fading progress. But not so, this committee. They have taken the hull by its proverbial horns, and have accomplished no little towards their ultimate goal already. ’Ihe group, along with civic minded area residents, want to see .1 small craft haven in the Chetco to lx; used for fishing lx». Us, and as .1 recre.it ional area. This would, W( firmly believe, mean a gre.it deal to the area if accomplished The committee first printed petitions, and already have thousands of signatures on them. Next they called in an army engineer, and got Ins version of the project. Finally, they have hired a secretary and are preparing letters to lx- sent out to enlist the support of persons elsewhere in the state and irr die country. They will compile these jxtitions, and these let tors of support, along with maps, tide charts, and othci miscellaneous but important information, and then sev eral of the group will go to Washington to present then case. In Washington, before the I louse of Appropriat 10ns Committee, the memlx-rs of the project committee won’t lx- empty handed. -’1 hey will have everything net essary right at their disposal petitions, letters, and the works. I he Chief of Army Engineers, here in Brook ings said that the only way that the Chetco Mouth Im provement authorization can he had is through pressure in Washington. We think that this group can bring that pressure. 1 T ake S a tu rd a y night for exam ple I w as driving around on my u s ual S a tu rd a y evening ja u n t to see w hat's going on. and I noticed how’ d rab looking it was around (he new bank building.
