TKAhHC U tA IM 3 AHEAD OF 1953 Traffic deaths in Oregon have edged ahead of last year with two of the most dangerous traffiic m onths yet to be reported, the state traffic safety division said today. Forty-six fatalities in October, 11 more than for the sam e m onth last year, were blamed for ending the s ta te ’s death reduction record and for shoving the 10-month traffic toll to 330 as compared with 326 through October a year ago. But there are bright spots on the record: W ith nine m onths’ reported, 40,713 accidents had been counted for a 19 per cent reduction over the sam e period a year ago. Injuries also are lower, 9,370 traffic h u rts reported from Ja n u ary through Septem ber, against 11,474 last year. Safety officials are at a loss to explain the sudden increase in deaths while m arked accident and injury reductions continue Re- I>orts so far this month indicate fatalities still are occuring at a disproportionate rate. 11 deaths reported in 14 days i M R .2B Y 4g BY CURTFY COUNTY LUMBER CO.
