T he H ales have a new TV radio phonograph com bina tion, They say t hey get very good TV reception. Mrs. E thel H ale teach es at th e B rookings elem t n- ta ry school but alw ays seem s to find the tim e to keep a b eau tifu l y a rd and flow er garden. S h e’s been p lan tin g several n w roses th is week. Mr. and Mrs. Bill H uovila and g irls visited the Ed R avekes S u n day. Mrs. M uriel G ragg su re put in a long day S atu rd ay , a f te r w o rk ing the m orning shift at C had's (w hich m eans g ettin g up about 5.0 0 a.m .). She w orked the rest of the day and night at th e C hetco Inn. She helped serve dinner to th e Lions C lub and it w as n e a r m idnight before her day w as done. Mr. and Mrs. Lee D rorbaugh spent S a tu rd a y evening w ith Mr. and Mrs. Wm. S te w a rt and Mr. an d Mrs. C arl Mason. M ary’s grandson, G eorge S chm idt, was trav e lin g from San F ran cisco for th e sam e purpose. T h ere w ere dozens of c a rs tr a v elin g up and around N ayborhill S unday. O f course the afternoon W AS nice, but I ju st w onder if it w as th e w e a th e r or as one of o u r neighbors said. “A fte r folks re ad N ayborhill N ew s’ th ey won- how i . . di red w hat this N ayborhill and ' people looked like.” We do have a couple of ladies up here who could put som e of these so-called p ain ters to sham e. i L eora S te w a rt and Billie M ason ju s t finished painting th e S tew - a r t ’s living, dining room and kitchen, and it looks professional. Seem s like th e signal needed for th e elec tricity to be cut off is to put a big chiffon cake in th e oven. This has happened to m e the last th re e tim es I've tried to bake one. T he last tim e it w as an accident, som ething broke or blew out. but th e o th e r tw o tim es the fellows just cut th e juice off w ithout a w ord of w arning. It seem s th at when they know they are going to cut it off they could give us a little tim e to d ra w a p a 1 of w a te r or to cook a hot lunch for o u r sw ing shiftm en. V isitors at the W eaver hom e S unday w ere friends from Rogue River, Mr. and M is. O. H. T hom p son and d au g h ters, Olivia. Ju d y and twins, M elody and M erideth. M arva W eaver had th<^ 4-H sew ing group of girls at h er hom e last Tuesday. Those present w ere leaders M rs. Ann Daw son and Mrs. Loy W eeks, Gail W eeks, Mary G. S m ith, S haron B ennett, Je a n G ardner, Joyce Raym ond. A nna E ttin g e r and M arjorie D ar ger. T he g irls will begin cotton d ress s as th e ir next project. Mr. and Mrs. John Z uber and son Ronnie w ere visitors in B rookings o ver the w eekend. They spent S a tu rd a y evening at the hom e of Mr. and Mrs. John P h il lips and d au g h ters. C an asta w as played, the m en being th e w in ners. T he Z ubers have ren ted th e ir hom e on N ayborhill to M r and M rs. C laude Bowm an of Brookings. Mr. and M rs. Joe H ritz and Mrs. F. M. Last month’s safety drive was a hig success — almost. Every one helped — the schools ran movies on safe driving. Rotary pot up ’p o s te r s , and Handy and E asy Peters went out on their own. The boys put up a big sign by .he side of the highway. I t said, “ Slow dow n— the life you save may be your own.” It was a good idea a fte r the police moved the sign back twelve feet.
