The G overnor spoke to several thousand spectators at the te r m i nation o f the L ily Parade, honor ing the B ro o kin g s-H a rb o r lily in d u stry. E a rlie r he had reviewed the parade w ith his w ile and m other. G overnor P atterson was h ig h ly enthusia stic about the parade, w hich he term ed “ am azing” fo r a c o m m u n ity o f th is size. He con g ra tu la te d the people o f th is area on the am ount o f com m unity s p irit w hich they had displayed and the great am ount of hard w o rk w hich had gone in to the pa rade. E a rlie r the G overnor had been conducted on a to u r o f the area by c ity officials. He was, he said, impressed by the p o te n tia l of B rookings as a seaport and p ro m ised the com plete cooperation of the state governm ent in develop in g o u r area. And fin a lly , the G overnor had one last com plim ent fo r the peo ple of Brookings before leaving, “ You know ,” he said. “ I lik e you people.” The Governor, his w ife and his [Continued on B ack Page) Stanley Colgrove Gets Another Bear S tanley C olgrove brought an o th e r bear to tow n Tuesday, but it was ju s t too late fo r his “ h ill b illy ” float in the L ily Parade. The bear was the second th a t S tanley has shot in the last tw o weeks. This one was ra id in g the sheep on his ranch 11 m iles n o rth o f Brookings. S tanley shot the bear about m id n ig h t, a fte r he had heard it chasing his sheep down the hills. T he bear, o u tlin e d in b rig h t m oon lig h t, was about to catch one sheep when S tanley opened up on it w ith a shotgun. The bear was h it six tim es, and rar. down the slope w ith S ta n ley's dog behind it. They bayed it in the brush, and in the m o rn ing S tanley found it dead.
