A federal law specifically sta te s tjiat a m o to rb o at o p e ra to r m ust have approvedd life-preservers, cushions, o r rin g s on his boat — one for every person aboard — however, non-approved e q u i p - m ent is sold a t m any sto res as th ere is no fed eral law to p re vent such sales. This o ften re s u lts in needless and expensive duplication on a boat. This is im portant and som e thing to be kept in m ind when o u tfittin g your boat o r check ing over its equipm ent. In the rush for em ergency a t sea th ere is no tim e to m ake su re th e life p reserv er or cushion you grab is safe.
