undergo extensive tests. F a c to r­
ies w here they are m ade m ust be
inspected at unanounced intervals
to insure that specifications are
m aintained. Because of this e x ­
trem e care th a t is given in sup­
ervision of the m an u fa ctu re of
approved equipm ent the su p e r­
ior quality of equipm ent such as
buoyant cushion^ are usually
easily recognized even w ithout
looking tor the approval stam p
they bear
In addition the buoyant m a l e -
ial in an
approved cushion is
known to be safe, while in th e
non-approved it is questionable.
This is im portant and som e­
thing to be kept in m ind when
o u tfittin g your boat o r check­
ing over its equipm ent. In the
rush for em ergency a t sea th ere
is no tim e to m ake su re th e life
p reserv er or cushion you grab is
safe. This should be determ ined
when you m ake th e purchase.
