In The Mail-box: Editor, The P ilo t: The Gold Beach V\ a te r company was organ ized in 1912 as a corporation of the S ta te of Oregon. This was 41 years ago. The original rate for service for a home with bath, toilet and wash bowl, was $1.75 subject to 10% discount if paid by the tenth of the month. The system was unm etered until 1929 when some m eters w ere in stalled. At this tim e the com pany applied for a reduction in rates to $1.50 per service, allow ing 3750 gals, per m onth per service. This ra te was continued until 1949 when application was again m ade to the commission and the ra te was returned to $1 75 per m onth which is the present rate. T here are m any newcomers to this com m unity as well as old residents who m ay not be in - 1 formed about this. It is doubtful if any other u tility in the state of Oregon has had no increase in 41 years. One certain thing is that w ater rate s in some form are going to be much higher in this locality before long.
