Let us all celebrate the New ^ear, and after the first great din of festivity begins to fade, we will have time yet to review quietly the accomplishments and aspirations of the past 12 months. Rotary Holds Ladies' Night At Chetco Inn The sixth annual R otary Club Ladies’ Night was held Saturday evening at the Chetco Inn. Eighty- one members, wives and guests w ere served a prim e rib roast 7 o’clock dinner in the dining room Tlie well-known Jensen family entertained w ith a group of m u sical numbers. C harles Jensen, teacher of music in Langlois and Port Orford high schools, played the piano, his son, W ilbur, the cornet, and daughter, Judy, the saxaphone and cornet. L. C. O’Brien, chef at the Inn, per formed w ith a series of slight- of-hand tricks that left the audi ence mystified. Roy Brown, m aster of cere monies, introduced the num bers and had a few jokes to tell on his fellow members. Les Dim- mick and Paul Davis added to » the m errim ent by finding reasons for fineing m em bers and thereby fattening the “pig.” Tables w ere decorated with holly and candles and guests were given folder souvenir pro gram s of the occasion. TUESDAY NOON MEETING At the regular Tuesday noon m eeting of R otary a t the Chetco Inn, Les Dimmick "butchered the pig.” which contained the fines th at had accum ulated during the year. Upon opening the anim al he found th a t it contained a few European coins, slugs and tokens th at had to be m ade good and thereby gave the group a good tim e and incidentally swelled the fund. The final total sum counted was 1 he past year, we are thankful to say, has given us many instances in which our friends have demonstrated their consideration and sin cere desire to help in our efforts to keep our readers informed about the affairs of the community. On Tuesday before Christm as a fire at the Duane Jones home -on Easy street burned the inte rior badly, consuming the three children’s C hristm as gifts and the decorated tree. Mr. Jones had been rem odeling the house for several m onths past and had it fairly com fortable and modern ized. It was concluded that the ( ’hristm as tree lighting had s ta rt ed the fire, leaving a bleak C hrist inas facing the family. Then the ( ’hristm as spirit be gan to function and a fte r Officer Bill Brown passed the word around neighfxirs, friends, and residents gathered w ith hammers and saws, and in one day did most of the rebuilding except replac ing windows and doors. Eighteen to 20 men gave th e ir assistance in response to Mr. Brown’s sug gestion. Also a sum of $100 cash was presented to the fam ily as a C hristm as gift. Brooking* and H arb o r people are those big-hearted folk that believe in giving th eir neighbors a lift when they need it, and the com m unity was indeed blessed when our genial BUI Brown de cided to m ake this com m unity his home.
