to fade, we will have time yet to review quietly the accomplishments
and aspirations of the past 12 months.

Family
If reverses or a little "bad luck”
catches up with you, you are a
fo rtu n a te person if you are in
Brookings or H arbor when if hap
pens.
On Tuesday before Christm as
a fire at the Duane Jones home
-on Easy street burned the inte
rior badly, consuming the three
children’s C hristm as gifts and the
decorated tree.
Mr. Jones had
been rem odeling the house for
several m onths past and had it
fairly com fortable and modern
ized.
It was concluded that the
( ’hristm as tree lighting had s ta rt
ed the fire, leaving a bleak C hrist
inas facing the family.
Then the ( ’hristm as spirit be
gan to function and a fte r Officer
Bill Brown passed the word
around neighfxirs, friends, and
residents gathered w ith hammers
and saws, and in one day did most
of the rebuilding except replac
ing windows and doors. Eighteen
to 20 men gave th e ir assistance
in response to Mr. Brown’s sug
gestion.
Also a sum of $100 cash was
presented to the fam ily as a
C hristm as gift.
Brooking* and H arb o r people
are those big-hearted folk that
believe in giving th eir neighbors
a lift when they need it, and the
com m unity was indeed blessed
when our genial BUI Brown de
cided to m ake this com m unity
his home.
Therefore, try to have your
"bad luck” in this small city.
Nowhere will you find people

they are their “brothers' keep
