Ismert, Bob as he is known by his tfriends, elected Curry County Commissioner, is not exact ly new in this part of the county. His parents moved to Pistol River in 1880. When he was eleven years of age he lived in Brookings for a short time. Mr. Ismert has had 15 years ex perience with the State Highway Department, helping to rebuild the Winchuck bridge about 12 years ago. He was painting inspector on the Chetco bridge and built the side walk when the highway was changed some months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Ismert live on o farm at Pistol River. They have two daughters. Donna who works in Gold Beach and Carole, a grade school student. Mr. Ism ert’s mother, Mrs. Vera Ism ert moved to Brookings two. weeks ago buying property on the old airport near the Hurst home. Mr. Ism ert is a double cousin of Mrs. Glen Hurst—that is cousins on both sides of the family (brother and sister married brother and BROOKINGS. Winchuck Women's Clubs Meets Jean Thompson recently enter tained the Winchuck River Women’s club at her home in Brookings at which time questions concerning the club were discussed. It is hoped that all members attend the November meeting to be held at Amanda Garvin’s, November 20, to vote or current club questions. The women voted in favor of the club purchas ing trays for the hostesses to use for serving refreshments. Jean Thompson and co-hostess, Mr* Dubbs served refreshments of pumpkin pie, cup cakes, and coffee which were appropriate for the Holloween occasion. The November meeting will be on the 20th, a week earlier this month Program Of County Board Six members of the Chamber of Commerce of Gold Beach. Port Or ford and Brookings, meeting as the Curry County Development Board, agreed unanimously that immed iate action be taken to assure to our county adequote telephone ser vice. Such service is essential to the safety and wefare of our citizens and must be provided if Curry County Is to hold its recent gains in industrial growth and to en courage futher growth. Specifically, the group recom mends the installation of adequate subscriber facilities, switchboards, poles and individual installations, and expanded trunk service com mensurate with our business and population needs as the fastest growing county in the northwest, The Board specifically solicited the endorsement of the local Cham ber of Commerce in Brookings, Port Orford and Gold Beach, the Munici pal government of each of the cities and the County Government of Curry County, and the Sixes, Ophir and Chetco Granges. NATIONAL EDUCATION BEING OBSERVED I Innsdu\, \'<>\ember i WEEK This week being National Educa tion Week was observed by the loca education plant with a display at the Chetco Drug Store. ‘Readin,* ‘ritin ’ and ‘rethm etic’ lessons by several very young school students show samples of the hand work possible after only a few months of present day instruction and patient teachers are to be commended for their sincere efforts on behalf of our children.
