S. W eather Bureau in a letter to Mrs. Dewey Akers and Ben Kerns this week. At present cloud heights are estim ated. W hen the “ceiling” is lower than any of the nearby hills or m ountain tops, actual ele c t i o n is difficult to estim ate. W ith m ergers of air lines, and with the probable placing of the local station directly on an air lane, the observations of the lo cal station have become much more im portant than when these were used for synoptic alone. Announcement of the installa tion of the ceiling light bears out tru th of rum ors which have been heard for months. Since June 1, when weather messages have been phoned to the Medford airport, additional data has always been asked, if the met eorologists there thought such to be necessary. The present weather data is being used at the Medford station for forecasting, for air way data and tor the frost-fruit service. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilmore of Santa Monica are at their summer home on the W inchuck.
