Some 'Rubbish7
Local residents, probably irked
by accusations of visitors anti by
rc|>orts in the Pilot, have been
lifting some “s l i c i n g ” of their
prem ises, and already the stre e ts
are beginning to look more tidy.
However, there still rem ains a
g reat deal ot rubbish about the
streets, such as em pty cigarette
packages, gum wrapi>ers, em pty
candy bags, etc. The city council
has talked buying containers to
be placed at strateg ic spots tor
puttin g rubbish.

A “ceiling light,” which will ac-
, curately m easure the height of
clouds up to the 10.000-foot mark,
or those which will affect flying
in these parts, will be installed at
the local w eather station shortly,
it was announced by the U. S.
W eather Bureau in a letter to
Mrs. Dewey Akers and Ben Kerns
this week.
At present cloud heights are
estim ated. W hen the “ceiling” is
lower than any of the nearby
hills or m ountain tops, actual ele
c t i o n is difficult to estim ate.
W ith m ergers of air lines, and
with the probable placing of the
local station directly on an air
lane, the observations of the lo
cal station have become much
more im portant than when these
were used for synoptic alone.
Announcement of the installa
tion of the ceiling light bears out
tru th of rum ors which have been
heard for months.
Since June 1, when weather
messages have been phoned to the
Medford airport, additional data
has always been asked, if the met
eorologists there thought such to
be necessary. The present weather
data is being used at the Medford
station for forecasting, for air
way data and tor the frost-fruit
service.
