Shooting Continued from Page One the following account appeared: “A young mill foreman was shot through the heart at the wheel of his car on the upper Sixes river at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday. Kay No- dine, Sixes rancher, is in the Cur ry county jail at Gold Beach, to where he had been taken after having admitted to the shooting, according to the state police. Dead is Marius Sorenson 27- year-old navy veteran of World War 2, and brother of Harold Sor enson of Sixes. He was unmarried. "Nodine reportedly d r o v e to Port Orford, six miles south of Sixes, where he entered Justice of the Peace Ad Nieman’s office and gave himself up shortly before State Police Officer Ray Gardner arrived from Gold Beach and as other officers were converging on the area. "Eyewitness to the shooting was Clifford Alvin Shields, 29, who owns a mill about nine miles up Sixes river from Hwy 101, where Sorenson was employed as fore man. “Shields told state police he and Sorenson had been to Coos Bay to get a part for repairing the mill and were headed east on the Sixes road toward the mill when they met a car driven by Kay Nodine, Sixes rancher, headed to- toward the highway. “Shields said Nodine hailed the two ment and Sorenson, driving Roy H. Brown MORTUARY Hillside Street 24-Hour Service Phone 2244 Day or N ig h t Brookings, Oregon Jake's Barber Shop HOURS: his own car, pulled up and waited for Nodine. According to Shields, Nodine came out of his car with a rifle and after swearing at the two men, flred one shot through the car door. The bullet struck Sorenson in the heart and he died instantly, Shields related. “Shields said he thought the gunman was going to shoot him too, but that after Shields talked to Nodine, the man lowered his gun and Shields started the car toward Bandon to take Sorenson to a hospital. “Shields stopped briefly at the Sixes store, at the junction of the upper Sixes river road and the highway, and asked that someone call ah< ad for police and medical aid to meet him in Bandon. “He stopped at the Bandon city hall where he was met by state police. The body of Sorenson was taken to Shroeder Bros. Mortu ary, Bandon.” Mr. Niemann, Port Orford, said Nodine gave himself up, and was turned over to police. While not confirmed, the story was related that Nodine’s daugh ter, 14 years old, had run away from home, and was said to have gone to the Shields home to live.
