While attempting to gather a story of the long ago the Pilot ran into this difficulty: Old timers were reluc tant to tell their stories lest jieople would censure them lx.eau.se of some statements, or, “I want nothing of it as I had nothing to do with area.” Certainly such was not helpful. Some firms, after hav ing been approached, fumed aside the talk by saying that they didn’t need advertising such as a special edition would give them. Some objected that it cost too much. An attempt at a special edition is a task beyond the conception of the average mind not acquainted with the newspaper work.k No matter how earnest may lie the en deavors, there will lx something left out, left unsaid, and time element alone forbids a costlier effort. The pic tures and cuts in this issue alone cost several hundred dollars. Others acted indifferent to the Pilot’s attempt.
