BROOKINGS-HARBOR PILOT'S
more alxRit the area. T his job is not for an amateur nj
.my means, for historical novels can Ix-coine involved.
While attempting to gather a story of the long ago
the Pilot ran into this difficulty: Old timers were reluc
tant to tell their stories lest jieople would censure them
lx.eau.se of some statements, or, “I want nothing of it
as I had nothing to do with area.”
Certainly such was not helpful. Some firms, after hav
ing been approached, fumed aside the talk by saying
that they didn’t need advertising such as a special edition
would give them. Some objected that it cost too much.
An attempt at a special edition is a task beyond the
conception of the average mind not acquainted with the
newspaper work.k No matter how earnest may lie the en
deavors, there will lx something left out, left unsaid,
and time element alone forbids a costlier effort. The pic
tures and cuts in this issue alone cost several hundred
dollars. Others acted indifferent to the Pilot’s attempt.
Back to the history again, someone should, within a
few months, attempt the task. From the Pilot much in
formation of recent years might lx* obtained.
