Old tim e rs here (people having lived h ere m ore th a n a y ea r!) know all ab out the A zalea G arden ¿Alb's an n u a l F low er Show. F o r th e benefit of “first tim e rs” we w an t to im press upon you th a t it is an event for you to ta k e p a rt in as w ell as enjoy seeing. A ny one m ay e n te r an arran g e m e n t and i t ’s lots of fun. T his y e a r’s show offers m any new ideas. Due to such a full and e n te r tain in g afternoon, it w as decided at o u r A pril m eeting to hold our business m eeting at 11 a. m. in th e park, leaving th e luncheon hour and aftern o o n free to enjo\ o u r guest sp ea k er and o u r n eigh boring Gold B each ladies. As this is the last re g u la r m eet ing before the F low er Show, it is urged th a t all m em bers try to a tte n d the 11 a. m. business m e e t ing. R em em ber to bring e x tra tab le se ttin g and lunch for o u r out-of-tow n guests. la y-D a y R a m b lin g s— It s M ay Day. W h at does May Day rem ind you o f? W ell, I guess oerhaps it depends upon how old you are. To me, May D ay m eans May B askets. R em em ber how we used to w ork for a w eek or so liefore May Day, fashioning little b a sk e ts? Shoe boxes w ere my favorite. T hey could be left in th e ir oblong o riginal shape, o r cut down and m ade in to tw o sq u are little baskets. L eft-over crepe p a p e r from C h ristm a s and V alentine day w as ruffled and ca re fu lly put on. R em em ber th e gobs of home m ade flour paste we slopped on the floor and over th e ta b le ? Left ¡over rolls of b rig h tly flowered and u n a te w a llp a p e r cam e in handy too. Then the afternoon before May Day, we w ould go w ild-flow er h u n tin g and end by p ractically scalp.ng M am a s flower garden. I hen dusk, and the excitem ent of loading up w ith our gay little irskets. full of fra g ra n t “S pring ?e a u t:e s.” Lady Slippers, Flags, chnny Jum p-U ps. and C abbage loses. R em em ber the th rill of caving them , one by one on the lo o rstep of o u r favorite fr ends? It call how w e’d knock on the ’o o r and then m ake a dash for the nearest sh ru b ? Being an o n y mous w as p art of the fun. C hildren have forg o tten or per. haps never h eard of one of the sw eetest of custom s.
