Cline is a patient at the Good Samaritan hospital, Portland, where she underwent surgery recently. Reports as to her condition are good. They witnessed the New Year’s parade at Pasadena. Whalen’s restaurant opened on Sunday, Jan. 7, after being clos ed for sometime for remodeling. Mrs. Julia Anderson left last week to spend an indefinite per iod visiting her son’s family at Salem. She will see her new lit- tie granddaughter for the first time. Mrs. Margaret Whalen w a s able to return to her home here last week after being a patient at the Mast Hospital, Myrtle Point, since Oct. 8. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kamph made a trip to San Francisco over the holidays, returning Jan. 2. Mrs. Kamph’s family held a re-union there, which was attended by ^11 members except one sister. The Home Demonstration service, operating through local units, is bringing the instruction of the U. S. Department of Ag riculture and OSC through the home demonstartion agent direct to the nousewife. This is the third year that the Langlois unit has been operating and, if it were possible to look into the home of those who at tend the meetings, a countless number of benefits would be not ed. There are many renovated chairs and davenports, more con veniently arranged kitchens, new footstools and slipper chairs, new methods of cooking and serving, dress forms and sewing every- where. All members have an in ner sense of benefits received. By notifying Ethelene Thomp son of her interest, any woman interested in attending any of the unit meetings, can be placed on the mailing list and she will rereive a card telling place and time of meetings. Notice of the meetings are also placed in the newspapers. Langlois unit meets on the first Thursday of each month. There are no dues; expenses of participation are negligible as a member pays only for materials used by herself. Members help each other and there is a fine spirit of co-opeartion. A bettor cotton dress work shop is scheduled for March and it is expected that many women will participate.
