The World’s Best Climate ?AGE TEN Prominent Visitors Stop Over In Area Tn the last 'few days. Beaver State Lodge, owned by Mr. and Mrs. August DePhillips, has been visited by several noted people of California reports Mr. De Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Pope of Burbank, well-known fishermen, make the trip all along the best fishing spots on the Oregon coast. Mrs. Pope is no mean angler in her own right, having taken a number of prizes at various der bies. Mr. Pope is a former well- known auto racer. J. J. MacDonald, sound effects man for Walt Disney, who puts the squeak into Mickey Mouse’s chatter ,and the quack into the old Donald Duck’s prattle, was another visitor with his wife. The two took in the fishing, be ing lucky to land a couple of hefty Chinooks. They had to leave right in the middle of his luck to return to the studio to put the sound in the forthcoming ‘ Alice in Wonderland.” Other prominent visitors m eluded Mr. and Mrs. F. C. StoPe ot Stolte Inc., Oakland. This con cern has construction projects in several states. They enjoyed this area immensely. Remember the carnival, Nov. 10. for benefit of the library. OREGON SMITH RIVER One of the worst wind and rain storms of recent years hit this area over the week-end, and according to old-time resi dents, nothing like it had hap pened in 25 years. Telephone and power lines were wrecked. All streams were flooded, overflow ing the highway so travel from Smith River to Crecent City was impossible. Smith River overflowed at the Clarence Westbrook ranch, also flooded the road at the former Rooney home, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Martin, who left by boat when the river came up to the top steps. They stayed at the Lester Ulrich home. At Tryon corner four to gve Zeet of water covered the high way, washing out all fences and strewing drift wood into the barn and barnyard at the Tryon ranch with Mr. Tryon having to go from the barn to tin* house m a rowboat. Driftwood covers so m; ny of the pastures along the river, and logs dot the land- scape in many places. Fisher, passed away Oct. 30 at the home of her daugh ter who resides north of Smith River, following a long illness. The body will be shipped by the Wier Mortuary to Glendale for interment. Smith River union school was unable to open Monday until the water pipes were repaired as high water from Dominick Creek washed them out, cutting the supply to town. Mrs. Harry Brown is taking several weeks vacation. She left by bus Friday, going north to Washington to visit her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Brown and little son. She will j also visit other relatives. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2. 1950 Library Soqp Will Be Re-opened Here Chetco Library will open again soon, if present plants go for ward, is the good news coming from the last regular meeting of Harbor Community club, ac cording to Mrs. Jessie Becker, president. Since the library was closed several months ago due to lack of housing, numerous people have requested the serv- ice offered by the library. Veterans of Foreign Wars of- Vered space in the lobby of their building, and it is hoped that arrangements can be completed for the opening there by Dec. 1.
