Used to think I knew most of the people of the area. Now, it seems to me that I know iess than half of the faces that daily I see about town. Many of these, naturally, are with the highway crews or unth the line crews, but many are not have come here t to enter the lumbering industry. ♦ By Dewey In the past week, t»y count, len families have contacted the Pilot to seek houses for rent, during the lime they will be em ployed hero, some with the high way department, others by the electrical contractors now 'doing line construction in the area. It is not pleasant to have to tell these people that I know of nothing a rail a hie for rent. I am aware that some of this employ ment is for short duration, but the situation is only aggravated by these few. The need has long bien with us. If anyone has ren tals, they should notify some lo- cal realtor, or place an adver finement in these columns. The Harbor curv e’s will be straightened, and the highway widened to the state line. Some moving of homes and I ♦ ♦ That garbage dumping ques tion has come up again. Most recent complaint comes from Roy Brimm, who has improved the hill property, once known as the "Heights,” north of town, People go up tlie road to the top 10 view the countryside, and on the way, dispose of garbage, which is not exactly a gentlemanly act for anyone. There is a garbage dump pro vided, up the south bank road, for such purpose. It is no greater tusk to take the refuse there than to drive out on any of the areas roads and drop the unsight ly mess. Many of these lanes or foads an private dumping on them is no worse than dumping in someone’s front yard. ♦ * ♦ This community has acquired another great asset in the family oi Rev. Jack Mumbower, wiio moved into the parsonage at the Baptist Community church last week. Rev. Mumbower, dynamic minister, will be spiritual leader at the church, and it is the guess of the Pilot that he will do so much good in the community. Welcome to Brookings!
