THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 1950 Gold Beach Men Wish To Start Own > Service Club Soon Intense interest is being shown by some 18 or 20 Gold Beach business men in formation ~>f a Rotary club in that town, with invitation sent to Brookings cluo for a joint meeting set for Wed nesday evening, August 9, at the Youth Center, Gold Beach. RevT. C. M. Lever, together with others who have either attended Rotary meetings, or have once been members, at other places, have aroused sufficient interest that an invitation was sent to Brookings Club, to put on a typ ical Rotary meeting and to ex- ‘plain the benefits expected from Rotary’. The newly-elected dis trict governor, of Longview, Wash, will be present to aid the local club in the club program. Rev. Milbourne, who spent the winter in Washington, ' vis iting his niece, has returned to Jack’s Creek and is staying at the Jackson home. He says he is glad to be back. Mrs. L. W. Bowlin returned to her Winchuck home Tuesday af ter spending a month visiting at Los Angeles. While there she be came acquainted with her first granddaughter, Anita Marie, the new arrival at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Steinmetz. Mrs. Guy Rice returned home the first of the week after en joying a week’s visit at Grants Pass, with her daughter, Miss Nancy Stone, and viewing the Glad Festival. Remember the cake and pie sale at Brookings Market for the benefit of the Community Li- brary, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Board man are parents of an 8-lb., 7- oz. daughter born at Seaside hos pital, July 31. The little lady has been named Betty Jean. Port Orford News By Dorothy Asdel Salmon fishermen brought in their first notable catches for the season from the sea last week, topped by Fred Jamieson with over 600 pounds one day. Several boats caught around 100 pounds. Most were Chinooks with some silversides mixed in. Volunteer firemen were called out twice last Saturday, first to quench a fire which had started in the sawdust by the old mill in the Hamlet and the second time to the Corliss White home. Sunday morning the siren blew once more after it was discover- ed the sawdust was on fire at the mill again.
