IT SEEMS TO ME $2.50 $3.00 has no meaning where atheism is the creed. We celebrate, in our peculiar custom, of buying gifts for our loved ones. Perhaps that comes from the wisemen who came from the east to pre- sent the Christ child with gifts. If we, here, patterning after our progress of the past year, "could continue the spirit of this season throughout the year, our progress during the coming year would not be recorded on pages —but in volumes. To everyone in this area and ' to those faithful subscribers of the Pilot, it is my earnest and | sincere wish that this Christmas will hold far more than you had hoped and prayed. Merry Christ mas, everyone! By Dewey In reviewing the past year, I am aaazed, if I may put it just that way, at the many steps this area has made toward a happy and successful future. Foremost among these, I presume, are the Ftahilization of both the lily and lumber markets, which have re newed hope of continuous and profitable employment. We have, through efforts of the Azalea Garden Club, acquir ed another state park, which is likely, in the future, to attract many more people to this com munity to stop for a while. Our business houses have re decorated, or remodeled t hei r places of business. thus making \ the area move attractive and i desirable to outsiders. I look, too. at the changes of attitude among the citizens, of those who first were skeptics and who now are boosters. 1'his fact may be the greatest of all our local achievements. 1 look at the new citizens who have come to live with us the past year. 1 have found them to be progressive, to be honest and above all, assets to any com m unity anywhere. Sunday and Monday we will observe another Christmas celebrating the birth of a faith which should make men free and does when those principles are accepted.
