has no meaning where atheism
is the creed. We celebrate, in
our peculiar custom, of buying
gifts for our loved ones. Perhaps
that comes from the wisemen
who came from the east to pre-
sent the Christ child with gifts.
If we, here, patterning after
our progress of the past year,
"could continue the spirit of this
season throughout the year, our
progress during the coming year
would not be recorded on pages
—but in volumes.
To everyone in this area and
' to those faithful subscribers of
the Pilot, it is my earnest and |
sincere wish that this Christmas
will hold far more than you had
hoped and prayed. Merry Christ
mas, everyone!

In reviewing the past year, I
am aaazed, if I may put it just
that way, at the many steps this
area has made toward a happy
and successful future. Foremost
among these, I presume, are the
Ftahilization of both the lily and
lumber markets, which have re
newed hope of continuous and
profitable employment.
Wc look about us ire see a
new school building ice did not
lave last year. We are now in
a better position to do right to
our youngsters who soon Will be
taking our places.

We have, through efforts of
the Azalea Garden Club, acquir

likely, in the future, to attract
many more people to this com

Our business houses have re

the area move attractive and i
desirable to outsiders.
I look, too. at the changes of
attitude among the citizens, of
those who first were skeptics
and who now are boosters. 1'his
fact may be the greatest of all
our local achievements.
1 look at the new citizens who
have come to live with us the

be progressive, to be honest and
above all, assets to any com

Sunday and Monday we will
