THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 1949 Cid Scouts Now Beast T’:res M tor Local Area Brookings-Harbor area is proud’ of its* newly-organized Girl Scout troops, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and now functioning. National dues of $1 per girl and credential fees of 12c per girl, paid by the Aux iliary. have been sent in to the National Headquarters, at New York City, Payment of these fees local girls become part of the national organization, with their names on the official rolls. Each registered member is entitled to privileges and pleasures of Girl Scouting. .The 12c fee, paid by the V. F. W. Auxiliary, entitles the local girls to use the scout program, and is considered the commun- ity’s obligation to keep the na tional organization in operation over the country. SENIOR GROUP The senior group, made up of older intermediate age girls and /those of high school age, is un der direction of Mrs. Ira Brown, and this group had its first prac tice workout as a group in serv ing the recent Boy Scout dinner. They were willing helpers and gained much from this practice. To date 13 girls are registered in this group. INTERMEDIATE GROUP Twenty girls have been reg istered by Mrs. Roy Brimm, the leader of this girl scout group. Girls of intermediate age are from 10 through 14 years of age. Plans are being made for the investiture services. Each girl has paid her dues, has participated in four or more meetings and knows the Girl Scout promise and laws. Mrs. Paul Shrader is as sistant leader. BROWNIE SCOUTS The Brownies can boast of 16 members with all qualifications passed to make them full-fledged Brownies. This group, under direction of Mrs. John Ginther, is for girls from seven to 10 years of age...... SCOUT COMMITTEE The committee has worked for a number of months, getting the leaders, and girls together. It was I started last spring when Mrs. Claude Goldizen called a meet ing of all interested people. Since available information was not at hand then, and before it was obtained, school was out. During the summer another at tempt was made to interest girls, with a swimming party. Few at tended and it was not until after school started when a large group of girls expressed interest at a Hallowe’en party. This committee is proud of the number of girls who will be able to take advantage of the work in this community. The total number is now 49. The commit tee feels, at last, that the com munity is started on the way and feel indebted to al! those who made the organization pos sible. The committee consists of five: Mrs. Dewey Akers, Mrs. Lynn Hampton, Mrs. Lucile Mu lino, Mrs. Warren Smith and Mrs. Lillian Matheus.
