tor Local Area
Brookings-Harbor area is proud’
of its* newly-organized Girl Scout
troops, sponsored by the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and
now functioning. National dues
of $1 per girl and credential fees
of 12c per girl, paid by the Aux
iliary. have been sent in to the
National Headquarters, at New
York City, Payment of these fees
local girls become part of the
national organization, with their
names on the official rolls. Each
registered member is entitled to
privileges and pleasures of Girl
Scouting.
.The 12c fee, paid by the V. F.
W. Auxiliary, entitles the local
girls to use the scout program,
and is considered the commun-
ity’s obligation to keep the na
tional organization in operation
over the country.
SENIOR GROUP
The senior group, made up of
older intermediate age girls and
/those of high school age, is un
der direction of Mrs. Ira Brown,
and this group had its first prac
tice workout as a group in serv
ing the recent Boy Scout dinner.
They were willing helpers and
gained much from this practice.
To date 13 girls are registered
in this group.
INTERMEDIATE GROUP
Twenty girls have been reg
istered by Mrs. Roy Brimm, the
leader of this girl scout group.
Girls of intermediate age are
from 10 through 14 years of age.
Plans are being made for the
investiture services. Each girl has
paid her dues, has participated
in four or more meetings and
knows the Girl Scout promise and
laws. Mrs. Paul Shrader is as
sistant leader.
BROWNIE SCOUTS
The Brownies can boast of 16
members with all qualifications
passed to make them full-fledged
Brownies.
This group, under direction of
Mrs. John Ginther, is for girls
from seven to 10 years of age......
SCOUT COMMITTEE
The committee has worked for
a number of months, getting the
leaders, and girls together. It was
I started last spring when Mrs.
Claude Goldizen called a meet
ing of all interested people.
Since
available
information
was not at hand then, and before
it was obtained, school was out.
During the summer another at
tempt was made to interest girls,
with a swimming party. Few at
tended and it was not until after
school started when a large group
of girls expressed interest at a
Hallowe’en party.
This committee is proud of the
number of girls who will be able
to take advantage of the work
in this community. The total
number is now 49. The commit
tee feels, at last, that the com
munity is started on the way
and feel indebted to al! those
who made the organization pos
sible. The committee consists of
five: Mrs. Dewey Akers, Mrs.
Lynn Hampton, Mrs. Lucile Mu
lino, Mrs. Warren Smith and Mrs.
Lillian Matheus.
