June 2024 FREE Vol #2 Issue #6 Historic Oakland’s Annual Vintage Car Show and Shine Photos by Wayne Estes On May 11th the Oakland Community Theater presented it’s annual Car Show and Shine fund- raiser across historic Oakland. With 130 cars in Drain Open Golf Tournament The Drain Open Golf tournament is an exciting 36 team event that helps fund scholarships for the Yoncalla, Elkton and North Douglas School Districts. This year it will be held on August 10th, 2024 at Bar Run in Roseburg, Oregon. Featuring 144 men and women from all over who will dust off their clubs and come together for this wonderful fundraiser that consists of raffle prizes, food, drinks, golf and lots of fun. attendance, it was a resounding success and a spectacular sight for the many attendees. With a beautiful sunny day and an excited crowd of car enthusiasts, it couldn’t have been more perfect. It’s not that the place is unusual, it’s a second hand bargain, thrift and resale store, and it is chock full of the most unusual items. Beaver Creek Unique is the brainchild of Russ and Charlotte Kaleese and has become a must stop location on the way to and from the Coast on Hwy 38. Charlottes mom, Thelma Orr, operated it, as a second hand/Antique store of sorts, for number of years. Eventually Russ, who worked for the city of Cottage Grove and Charlotte worked for, and still does, Kendall Ford, began spending time and revitalizing Continued on Page 5
