Gymnasts fall in squeaker ■A The Sandy gymnastics team iost a squeaker last week, falling 100 4-98 6 to Columbia. The Pioneers improved in all events but the bars, competing about even in the balance beam and the v a u lt S an d y had a 27 8-23 25 advantage in the floor exercise, but Colum bia scored six points better on the bars The people competing in floor exercise for Sandy "looked nice,” said Coach Molly Knudsen Knudsen said the Pioneers are strong on the dance portion of the floor exercise, and work to execute "clean" tu m b le s , though th e ir tumbling is "not excep tional ” Netters down Parkrose He e x p la in e d th a t Parkrose wasn’t able to "serve us tough ” They gave them some " fre e balls" as well Give us free balls and “ w e’ll hit 'em to the floor ” Grantz said The Pioneer volleyball team got its record to 5-5 in the M t Hood Conference with a 15-2, 15-9 win over Parkrose "The thi.^p utey don’t do well we do awfully w ell,” said Coach Ron G rant! . • Volleyball outing ‘less than successful’ f The Pioneer volleyball team was "less than sue ceM ful" at a jamboree in C orvallis this weekend, though Coach Ron Grantz said "some positive things came out of i t . ” The caliber of play was tough, with six of the eight teams ranked in the top 10 of the state Although their 1-6 record in the one-game round robin tournam ent ja m boree doesn't show it, Grantz said they did play up to the level of competi tion In addition, "we learned about the competitiveness of certain players,” he said Grantz has been playing everyone on the roster but said now he s "moving toward more of a set line up At about midway in the season the Pioneers were 4-5, and tied for fourth in the Mt Hood Conference T h e y ’ ve p la y e d Sam Barlow High School twice, falling 15-1. 15-4 last week Said Grantz.
