X ® v ? = 5 Cinco De Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over a French invasion force at the city of Puebla, Mexico on May 5, 1862. This is a day honoring the close and friendly rela tions between Mexico and the United States. It is a day when American citizens of Mexican descent express pride in their Mexican heritage. Cinco De Mayo is one of the many historic ties we share with Mexico. It is a day in which Mexicans and Ameri cans alike can recall common experiences in the struggle to preserve political freedom from a fo r eign power. As with all Mexican holidays, it is a day celebrated with much festivity, fireworks, dancing and many fiestas.
