JONES Po«l Correspondent Earmarked in Welches School's $1.018,661 budget for the 1982 82 school year is $27.000 for the purchase of a used school bus S u p e rin te n d e n t Ken Blackburn said the pur chase of a new bus is necessary because of the condition of the district's bus fleet “ Unless we start con sidering this now, we may find ourselves in a position of needing to buy several buses,'' said Blackburn The Government Camp 36-passenger bus, which is a four wheel drive, is 11 years old and has 122,000 miles on its chassis Its engine was replaced after 97,000 Recently Blackburn said that the district's spare bus broke down and the activi ty bus had to be used as a replacement, forcing the cancellation of a basketball game The spare bus. said Blackburn, has over 102.000 mile on it. Such things as gas, tires, m a in ten a n c e, and the salanes of bus drivers are included in the reimburse ment The state reimbursts the district anywhere from 60 to 70 cents per mile for transporting students to and from school, but does not reim burse for ac tivities. such as athletic e v e n ts .
