Day kindles worldwide awareness More than 200 girls gathered at East Orient Grade School Saturday to celebrate Alpine Thinking Day The annual event is a celebration of the birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden Powell who originated the worldwide movement that became known as Girl Scouts It is traditionally a day set aside to recognize the international scope of scouting Twenty-four troops from Orient, Cottrell, Boring, Damascus. She was 23. Bom Teresa Jo Stiles on Jan 15, 1959 in Portland, she was raised in the Sandy area where she received her elementary education at Hoodview .School in Bor ing After attending Portland Union Academy, she began beauty school and later worked as a hair tylist in Gresham. She m a rrie d R o b ert Anderson on June 18, 1979 They made their home in Gresham She is survived by her h u sb an d , R o b e rt of Gresham, a son, Robbie of G resham ; her parents, Ralph and Norma Stiles of Sandy; three brothers, Gene and Gary Stiles, both of Portland, and Kevin Stiles of Sandy, and her grandparents, George and Vera Stiles of Walla Walla, Wash, The fa m ily suggests memorials be made to the Robbie Anderson Trust Fund in her memory Fred Kubier F un eral services for former Kelso nurseryman Fred Kubier, 68, were held last T h u rs d a y at the Bateman Funeral Chapel in Gresham. He died Feb 16 in a Portland hospital. Born May 23, 1913, in Fruita, Colo., he grew up in O gd en , U ta h , and graduated from high school in Sparks, Nev, He was em ployed by Southern Pacific Railroad for 39 years in Sacramento, Calif At the time of his retire ment in 1973, he was a supervisor Shortly after retirement, he moved to the Kelso area w h ere he owned and operated a tree farm He had recently moved to Portland He married Anne Louise {.arson on June 22, 1940 in Gresham M r Kubier was a member of the Sandy Grange and the Tehama M as o n ic Lodge in Sacramento Marie Jadrny Services were held Mon day at Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham for Marie Ann Jadrny of San dy, who died Feb 17 She was 88 Born Aug. 24, 1893 in Brno, Czechoslovakia, she came to America when she was 27 She married Frank J a d rn y in V an c o u ve r, Wash., in 1921. He died in 1963 She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising and a r ranging flowers She lived on Jadrny Road in Sandy, which was named for her husband’s family Survivors include two sons. Frank Jr and Ed ward, both of Sandy, two daughters, Bessie Milner of Manteca, Calif . and Lydia Palmer of Molalla, nine grandchildren and seven grandchildren She is also — survived by several sisters still living in Europe. Burial was at Forest Ia ^ n Cemetery He is survived by his wife, Anne of Portland; a son, Roger of M ercer Is la n d , W a s h .; th re e b ro th e rs , E d w in of P o r tla n d , W illia m of LaGrande, and Howard of G old en dale, W ash.; a sister, Paulene Madsen of Roseville, Calif , and two grandchildren.
