Thur* July 30 1981 (Sec 2, SANDY (O r» ) POST about people Weaving exhibit set A reception w ill be held this Saturday, Aug i, for Phid Simons at the W yE ast Gallery Shop in Hhtxltxlen dron It w ill be from 10 a m to 5 p m Simons’ show, "Tarascan Lace and Other Weavings" is being held at the gallery, located on the north side of I ’ S Highway 26, some 17 miles east of Sandy Simons was trained by the T a ra sca n In d ia n s in G uatem ala and uses a hackstrap loom The lace is Catlin Gabel play slated a s p e c ia l te c h n iq u e d e v e lo p e d by the Guatemalans and is utilized in making a variety of ob jects, including hangings, purses, articles of clothing and pillow covers Wine and refreshments w ill be served throughout the day and Simons w ill be on hand to d is c u s s and demonstrate her work Other members of the guild w ill also demonstrate and variety of different art skills outside the gallery shop, weather perm itting The Catlin Gabel Summer Theatre w ill present "B ierce Takes on the R ailroad" this Saturday, Aug 1, at 7:30 pm . The play w ill be at the Mt Hood Lions Club in Wemme The play, w ritten by Philip Bosakowski, is an historical drama set in the 1890s The action takes place in San Francisco and Washington. D C , where journalist Am b ro se B ie rc e a rg u e s singlehandedly against the pow erful and greedy of ficials of the Pacific Western Railroad The Catlin Gabel Summer Theatre is in its 21st year, The players are 17 high school students who put the Art entry deadline Sept. 3 Sept, 3 has been set as the deadline for entries at the third annual Gresham Get Together Days art exhibit The exhibit w ill run from Sept 17 to Oct. 22 It w ill be open from 8 a m to 5 p m Monday through F rid a y beginning Sept 21; other hour* will be set tor Get Together Days from Sept 17 to 20 A maximum of 50 artists in any medium w ill be selected for the exhibition They must be from the area, however There is no entry fee and only original work w ill be ac cepted W orks produced under classroom supervision are not eligible. OSUT is a 13-week period which combines basic com bat training with advanced individual training.
