And they want to m ake sure the s ta te 's leaders know it Reducing the number of prisoners in state correc tional facilities before they have served th e ir fu ll sentence was opposed by 90 percent of those responding to a Governor's Listening Post survey e arlier this year. More than 3,200 ballots were fille d out in the February survey More than 2,800 respondents opposed reducint the number of prisoners before serving full sentence, while 331 said they favored the idea Listening Post coordinator Paul Phillips said participa tion in this second Listening Post survey increased 23 percent over the earlier survey in late 1980 concern ing child care Approximate ly 2,500 took part in that survey Gov Vic Atiyeh said, “ The growing number of Orego nians taking part in the Listening Post Program survey is indicative of their desire to become involved in government policy making When given the opportunity to become involved, citizens of Oregon enthusiastically respond." Although not scientifically conducted, survey ballots were sent to and received in p ro p o rtio n a l num ber to population from each of O re g o n ’ s 36 c o u n tie s , Phillips said He said s u rv e y respondents were closely divided on regional correc tional facilities, opposing them 51 to 49 percent By a two-to-one margin <67 to 31 p e rc e n t) those who answered the survey oppos ed a regional correctional facility in their community but approved (57 to 43 per cent) of a new correctional facility in Marion County, Those who favored a new Marion County facility sup ported construction of that facility to serve a larger future prison population, rather than a facility which would alleviate current over- crowding in the state prison population. Bonding was listed as the favorite method of paying for the new facility, followed by income tax, sales tax and property tax Respondents opposed, 58 to 42 percent, funds being spent on parole and proha tion, but favored, 52 to 48 percent, more money being spent on training facilities for state correctional institu tion residents In addition, those who answered the survey were Hospice open house slated open house and ice cream social from 3:30-4:30 p m at its facility, 39641 Scenic St. The nursing home w ill welcome Mayor Ruth Loun- Mount Hood Hospice will host an open house 2 4 3 0 p m , Tuesday, May 19, at the volunteer health care group's new office above Coast to Coast in Sandy's Heritage Square Governor Vic Atiyeh has declared May 17—24 as Oregon Hospice Week The new local hospice group is organizing to pro vide a new home-care sup port network for terminally ill patients at home Hospice team members prim arily w ill be profes s io n a ls and s e m i professionals who volunteer their time They w ill work closely with hospitals and family doctors to provide physical and emotional sup port for patients at home Projected start up date for area service is Jan 1, 1982 Volunteers and donations presently are sought for the non p r o fit n e ig h b o r to- neighbor aid program P o te ntia l m em bers of Mount Hood Hospice may write P O Box 284, Sandy, or visit the new hospice office upstairs in Sandy's Heritage Square D ire c to rs a re M acy Brader, Pat Spradling, Dr. Robert Lee, D r C lare Kozneck, Loraine Domine, Rev Lindsay Warren, Randi Leuthold, Marguerite Boyd, Ken Hallgren and Sandy Pot ter SulSdgyukMi OpFRinj eon ».» ............9:30 a. m Sendee ickeM ..........9:45 lib HwmniwmAiF . . . . 1100 am Hom» Abi» Study............... 6 00 p m N u rs ery C o ra D u rin g W o rsh ip P a s to r Jo h n H V o n l i e r o p H o m y 6 6 8 -4 1 0 0 C h u rc h 6 6 8 4 5 4 3 The 122nd semiannual Clackamas County I 0 .0 F and Rebekah Association meeting w ill be held this Saturday, May 2, at the San dy I (> < )F H all. 36685 Pioneer Blvd , at 1 p m The Sands odd Fellow Lodge No 195 and Sandy Rebekah Lodge No 193 will lx* the host lodges Willis Witter of the Sandy lodge w ill be chairman of the Odd Fellows' meeting The officers for the Rebekah meeting w ill lx* chairman Mary Sharp of Molalla, vice chairman Helen Swails and marshall Joyce Edmonds, lx»th of Sandy Rebekahs All area Rebekahs and Odd Fellows are invited Church of Christ Sun Bible study Sun communion Sun otro M m e ». .
