Thur« Birdcage Theater facelift underway Volunteers and donated materials come together this week to rebuild Sandy’s out door Birdcage Theater in Meinig Park. I t ’s a major reconstruction job from the ground up. after vandalism and rot prompted city crews to burn down the smaller original platform. D onated la b o r and materials matched money from a state grant to the city of Sandy fo r park im provements Total amount of the state grant to the city for Meinig Park improvements is $2.000. although only a small amount of that money w ill be needed fo r the rebuilding of the park's out door theater The Birdcage Theater is a feature of the Sandy Moun tain Festival in Meinig Park, this year scheduled July 11 and 12 The new f ir p la tfo rm theater w ill be 18 feet square and b u ilt around trees There w ill be a stairway en trance from the back of the stage and better lighting Sandy Building Inspector Tom Day is coordinating the construction, with local con tractor Brad Thomas and Thom pson C o n s tru c tio n donating labor Vanport Manufacturing of Boring is providing building materials at a discount rate, while Sandy architect Bruce Erickson provided plans at a discount rate April 23 1981 (S»< I) SANDY (O r».) The students, teachers, parents and staff at the school are not going to let the historical event pass without a special golden birthday party Plans are already under way for the special occasion which is planned for Oct 8, 1981 Students from the San dy Elementary Research Class are researching im portant events from each decade Even the rise and fall of the hemline over those 50 years is noteworthy.
