By Oregon law, the last Friday of April each year is designated Arbor Day The purpose is to make citizens better aware of the benefits of forests. Students, in particular, are asked to participate in a c tiv itie s during school hours that encourage tree planting, protection and preservation of trees and shrubs, and a gre ate r understanding of the en vironment "Here in Oregon we live in a world of forests," Miller said. "We should take a mo ment to appreciate how these trees support our state's economy and offer the many other benefits that we a ll enjoy, including scenery, re c re a tio n , wildilife, fish and water." Miller said that public and private forestry organiza tions are available to assist schools and other organiza tions in local Arbor Day pro grams "Teachers are being asked to include special studies or programs in observance of Arbor Day." Duncan said Grange week festivities set next Saturday In recognition of National Grange Week next week, A p ril 19 25, the Sandy Grange No. 392 will host a Booster Night Saturday, April 25 There will be a potluck supper at 6:30 p m. and an open meeting beginning at 8 pm .
