Oregon City won w ith a 2-0-1 record, followed by San dy, 2-1; Estacada. 1-2; and Silverton, 0-2-1. W ith the second place finish, the Pioneers qualified for the state tournament, scheduled for Feb. 27-2H in Grants Pass The Pioneers were led by Tim Zimmerman, who mov ed up to second board and captured a first-place trophy at that position w ith a spotless 3-0 record. “ That w as a re a l surprise," admitted Sandy chess club advisor Roger Ford. " T im had ju st a tre m e n d o u s la s t ro u n d first two boards. But things did a complete turnaround at district. San dy won the first two boards, but lost the last three. Oregon City snuck away with a 22-19 win and the district title game. He just crushed the Oregon City man I know that sounds funny in chess, but he really did crush him He won in less than 15 moves and he was going against an undefeated opponent. Bryon Gehring of Silverton won first board w ith a 3-0 record Third board went to .John Schrock of Oregon City w ith a 2-0-1 m ark; fourth board went to Matt Perrott of Silverton, 2-1; and fifth board honors were captured by Curt Landers of Estacada with a 3-0 m ark. The Pioneers went into the Oregon City match w ith three unbeaten players and a chance to capture the TV L t i tle. The 1981 schedule is $12 for fe rtile males and females, and $6 fo r neutered or altered males and females. Senior citizens receive a $3 discount on each license There w ill be no licenses sold locally this year.
