Humanities Class 12 noon Golden Age Club Potluck Bull Run School revises free lunch requirements Bull Hun School this week announced its revised policy for free and reduced-price meals and free milk for children unable to pay the full price Under the new policy, a fam ily whose income is under 15,700 with one child in school is entitled to free m e a ls and fr e e m ilk . Eligibility for each addi tional child is determined by an average income hike of 11,530 To be eligible for reduced- price meals, the one-child fam ily’s income must be under $8,350 Eligibility for each additional child in this portion of the program is determined by an average income hike of $2,380 Children from fam ilies whose income is at or below these levels are eligible for free meals, reduced-price meals andor free m ilk. In ad dition, families who do not meet these criteria but have other unusual expenses, such as unusually high medical expenses, shelter costs in excess of 30 percei.I of income, special education expenses due to the mental or physical condition of a child, and disaster or casual ty losses, are urged to apply. Application forms are be ing sent to all homes in a let ter to parents. Additional copies are available at the school office. The inform a tion provided on the applica tion is confidential and will be used only for the purpose of determining eligibility. Applications may be submit ted at any time during the year. Foster children are eligi ble for these benefits in cer tain cases If families have foster children living with them and wish to apply for the plan, they should contact the school. Under the provisions of the policy, Robert Fones, prin cipal, w ill review applica tions and determine eligibili ty. If a parent is dissatisfied with his ruling, he or she may wish to discuss the deci sion with Fones on an infor m al basis. SUHS scores compare well In testing given Sandy Union School juniors earlier this year, the students com pared favorably to national and tri-county area scores. SUHS administered the California Achievement Test to members of its junior class in D ecem b er and January. The examination measures student aptitude in reading vo ca b u lary and SUHS board seat awaiting March ballot tages shows that 5 percent (tw o item s) w ere below average, 23 percent (nine items) were average, 26 per cent (10 items) were high, and 46 percent (18 items) were very high. The leader is Tim Skelton CASHING CHECKS IS HASSLE County eyes tax relief daims C la c k a m a s C o u n ty Assessor George Malin is now accepting claims for property tax relief on owner- occupied homes Sandy area homeowners who have purchased new homes since June 30,1980, or who have not filed for tax relief on their present home, should contact the assessor about filing for tax relief. Claims will be accepted until April 1. Under Oregon’s Property Tax Relief Plan, the state pays part of the property taxes on owner-oceupied homes. The state payment Is shown as a credit on the owner’s November tax state ment, reducing the amount the owner pays. Homeowners who received property tax relief last fall on their present residences should not file again. Their tax relief will be continued automatically. Homeowners who have changed the use of their pro perty — such as converting it to rental units — must notify the assessor of the change. Homeowners who do not notify the assessor of a change in use must pay back any state payment plus a 20 percent penalty. M o b ile h o m es, con dominiums and single units of multiple-unit residential housing qualify for property tax relief, along with conven- tional homes. The taxpayer must own and live in the dwelling. The position is currently fill ed by Paul Tucker of the Bull Run district. Tucker filed last week with the county elections board, indicating his intentions to run again for the position He has held the position for four years “ I ’ve only missed two meetings in my entire term, which I think is an indication of my faithfulness.” he said Other residents of the district who are interested in running for the position have until Feb 24 to filp with the elections office.
