Says Edwin, ‘'Drugs, more than politics or even the lack of money, pose a serious threat to our sport. I ’m talking about all kinds of drugs — speed, amphetamines, you name it. It*» there. Behind the scenes the NBA is working on plans to have a series of basketball games matching NBA teams against the Russians. There is also consideration being given to playing against the pro team in Ita ly . Hell, the Russians are not exactly dominating our college teams. Arizona State University’s assistant football coaches are reportedly having problems finding new assignments because most head coaches feel they were disloyal to ousted Fran k Kush. Swimming won by Chris Anderle of Gresham in 1:51.23 izer and Topi iff also made the finals of the 500 free. Topliff was fifth in 5:18.64 and Izer sixth in 5:21.32. The 500 was won by Canby’s Scott Hughes in 4:53.09 The Falgout brothers made the finals of the 200-individual medley. Senior David was fifth in 2:14.38 while M att, a junior, was fourth in 2:14.38 Reynolds Tony Yap was the winner in 2:00.00. The brothers combined again in the 100-butterfly. M att was fifth in 58.09 and David sixth in 59.45 Centennial’s Jam ie Sprenger won the fast race in 55.83 The top four placers all met the state qualifying time in the vent. Bret Crane finished fifth for Sandy in the 10O-free, just behind M ayfield He was timed in 53.33. Crane also made the finals in the 100-backstroke and finished fifth with a tim e of 1:00.57. No other Pioneers made the finals but Hank Hazelett won the consolation finals of the 100-breaststroke. His time was 1:09.90.
