Two months later, the kitchen has been reopened to serve breakfast and lunch, and last Wednesday the new dinner menu was introduced to the public. The Forest Service at Zigzag is accepting contract bids for an extensive study of the Barlow Trail to be con ducted later this year A contract for the study w ill be let in late July or early August, according to K eith T h u rlk ill, C ultu ra l Resource Technician at the Zigzag Ranger Statin Plans are for the project to be conducted in three phases: an historian w ill compile available literature concerning the Barlow T rail; aerial photographs w ill be made of the tra il; and field specialists w ill work to unearth and record physical evidence of the trail. The finished report w ill be a detailed study of the condition of the trail and its historical significance. A number of archaological study groups have been contacted by Forest Service to bid on the project They include private consulting firm s 'and academ ic in stitutions. The deadline fo r sub- m itting bids on the work is July 18. The project is part of the Forest S ervice’s C u ltu ra l Resources Management program. Rhododendron accident site for two men Two Portland men were injured in a single-car ac cident Sunday on U.S. 26 three m iles east of Rhododendron. The driver, Larry Jay Welch, told Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies he swerved to avoid hitting a herd of deer on the road and was unable to regain control, running the car into a pile of d irt and rocks on the side of the road Deputies reported the car w as totaled.
