Each page of the book shows the location of buildings and driveways for a one square mile area The street address index system 1» a considerable im provem ent over the previous method of locating houses by postal route and box numbers, according to Rathke The fire department made the change in 1975 when the county assigned street numbers to all houses, mobile homes and other dwellings. These classes are scheduled for five-week sessions and the ten-week summer term Students who would like to increase their reading skills may enroll in E ffective Reading (RD 10) This five- week course stresses im proved reading rate, reading c o m p r e h e n s io n , a n d vocabulary building in an individualized program. Basic Writing Skills, <SR 10) provides students with practical writing skills This includes studying sentence construction, spelling, and grammar Arithmetic Fundamentals MTH 10) covers whole n u m b e rs , f r a c t io n s , d e c im a ls , p e rc e n ts , measurements, and related applications. This class has no lecture, but meets in the math laboratory for four regular hours per week arranged to fit the student's schedule Effective Study Skills <SSK 10) is designed to help beginning students un derstand the class scheduling process, improve their study habits, use the library, and take exams effectively. Man in a Modern World (HUM 10) is an introductory overview of the arts and social sciences fo r the student with little or no background in the humanities The summer sessions also offer independent study courses in g ra m m a r, spelling, vocabulary im provement, English as a second language, and com m unication w ith the deaf Some of these courses are semi-independent study courses taught with tutorial assistance and the support of workbooks and prerecorded tapes These classes may be started at any time and progress toward completion may be as rapid as the student desires Other classes offered as part of the developmental education program are taught during the regular sum m er s e s s io n s .
